...traditional homes designed for modern living
Name - Stephen & Gill Payton
Design - The Talisker
Location - Strathconon, near Inverness
Builder - This was a self-managed project using own labour and sub-contractors
The upper floor of this Talisker has been fully developed. The design lends itself well to doing this and with a little forward planning you can prepare the house for future development by changing the roof pitch and adding a few Velux windows during the initial build even if you don't want the extra space immediately.
....which has plenty space for a dining area in front of the window to take advantage of views....
The cosy living room has an angled fireplace in one corner and in this case a multi fuel stove.
This photograph shows a typical SkyeHomes stair. This is the style of stair we include as standard in the package but you can specify a different style if you'd prefer. If you don't say otherwise, this is what you'll get! The stair is pine to go with the 4 panel interior doors and other interior woodwork.
The landing above the stair is a very restful area of the house. The light coming in the rooflight casts a soft light over the area which combined with the light from the living room below means that you'll seldom need additional lighting.
Despite being a relatively compact design, the Talisker still has a spacious kitchen.....
....and also a Rayburn cooker. This one is clearly a much loved feature in the house with its gleaming hob covers!
At the other end of the lounge there is a stair to the first floor. Although in the living room itself, the open pine design makes it a feature of the room.
The stair in this house is naturally lit by a Velux rooflight above it.
Although there are coombed ceilings upstairs, a little imagination ensures that you can still incorporate an attractive bathroom or shower room into the design.
